Image of Neil GaimanI was taking some time today to think and reflect and I was thinking about British fiction author Neil Gaiman’s commencement address he gave in 2012 at Philadelphia’s University of the Arts.

In his fantastic, inspiring speech, Gaiman speaks about his journey to the top of the mountain. For him, the top of the mountain was a place where he could earn a living doing what he loved – writing.

He explains how before making an important decision, he would pause and ask himself which choice would get him to the top of the mountain. We all have a lot to learn from Gaiman’s beautiful commencement address.

This morning, I took a little time to ask myself “What does the top of the mountain look like to me? What a healthy, productive exercise it was.

You never know when something you say could change someone’s life. I think Neil Gaiman may have changed mine and I am grateful to him for that.

So take a moment and ask yourself “What does the top of the mountain look like to me?”

It may just turn out to be one of the most important moments of your life.
